For Sale — Flowers
"Flowers are the most mysterious of all creatures. Their life consists of a single moment that remains in our memory forever" — or so the French post-impressionist Paul Gauguin is said to have put it. Since ancient times, flowers have been given exceptional meaning — mythological heroes themselves transformed into plants whose names still accompany us today.
Cornflowers are associated with the Polish countryside, and in particular with fields of golden grain. In the language of flowers, they carry meanings of fidelity and kindness. To give them is to wish someone happiness and prosperity. For centuries it was also believed that a girl who found many cornflowers while working in the field would soon be married.
Roses are the inseparable attribute of the ancient goddesses of love and beauty, including the Greek Aphrodite and the Roman Venus. For hundreds of years, roses declared feelings without words. Over time they became a symbol of confidentiality — the Latin sub rosa (literally: under the rose) refers to a message entrusted in secret. In ancient Rome, a wild rose was placed on the doors of rooms where confidential matters were discussed.
