Old Cottage (I)

draft MT — needs author review

An old cottage…, its roof neglected, leaking
Once a young lady lived there, and a man
On that roof a crumbling chimney, like an old wandering beggar
So this man and this lady conquered the world with dreams

Walls stripped of windows stare into the blinded distance
Somewhere out there their grandchildren leave their own mark
The door torn from its hinges, a rusted pot in the threshold
No one left to cook for — on the clock, time has frozen.
